What you can upload

We read PDF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, WebP, PPTX, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT.

Your plan decides which of those it accepts. If it does not include the one you dropped, the message names the cheapest plan that does.

One file may be up to 20 MB. Split anything larger and upload the parts.

While it processes

Your documents are processed one at a time, so a file behind another one reads Waiting.

The other labels are the step the file is in: Saving your file, Reading pages, Saving the text, Indexing for search. Processing means it is still being worked on.

Reading pages is almost the whole wait. A short document is usually under a minute and a long one takes several; at 20 minutes we stop and mark it failed.

When a document fails

Every failed file says why on its row, and the reason decides what is worth doing.

  • “We could not read this PDF” is the one that points at the file. Open it, save or export it again, and upload the new copy.
  • A timeout, a stopped run and “Something went wrong” are ours rather than your file’s. Upload it again.

A failed file counts against neither your document count nor your storage.

Deleting

Deleting a document frees its slot and its storage immediately. One that is still processing is stopped first.

Delete all documents, on your account page, removes every document, the text taken out of it and the file itself. The account stays, on the same plan.

Both are immediate, and neither can be undone.

How long we keep them

Documents uploaded without an account are deleted 48 hours after that library was created. The clock runs from the library, so uploading again does not extend it.

On a free account a document is kept for 30 days. We email you a week before, and nothing is removed without that notice. Upgrading cancels a notice you have already been sent.

A paid plan does not expire documents.

What signing up keeps is on Account.
