Your AI client calls these five; you never call them yourself. They are here so you can tell what a client is able to ask for, and name the one you want it to use.
All five see your library and nothing else.
The five tools
- search_documents answers a question from the content of your documents. It returns the passages that matched, each with the document it came from and the pages it sits on, and it can be pointed at named documents or a collection.
- list_documents is what you have, by name: title, filename and which collection each one is filed in.
- list_collections is the collections you have made and how many documents each holds. Documents you have not filed are in none of them.
- get_document is everything known about one document: title, filename, collection, page count, and the metadata taken out of it.
- get_element is the structure around one search hit. A table cell comes back as its whole row, and anything else comes back with the passages either side of it.
Links back to the page
A result carries a link to the page its text came from. Opening one brings the document up here, at that page, with the region the text was taken from marked on it.
The link opens for you, in your own browser. Sent to somebody else, it opens nothing.
The tools ask the client to put these links on the claims they support. Whether it does is up to the client.
